Chapter Ten

Recharged after spending multiple nights of passionate lovemaking with Jude, Elliott reluctantly left Jude’s bed when his phone chimed with his alarm. He needed to get to his next shift at the clinic. After pressing a kiss to Jude’s warm shoulder, since his lover had tucked his head and hands under a pillow as he spread out on his stomach, Elliott left the coziness. He dressed in the morning light poking through the curtain. He gathered his things together, wrote a note then left it on Jude’s nightstand.

After another look at his sleeping lover, he got on his bicycle and returned home. Even with Sigi, the apartment was empty and lonely. There was nothing drawing him here, not like Jude’s home. Settling on the sofa, he coaxed the finicky feline on his lap. Within moments of manipulating his fingers through the soft fur, Sigi gave his compliance with loud purring and head-butts.

Soon, hunger overrode Sigi’s need for loving. He leaped down and led the way to the kitchen. He sat in front of the pantry closet where Elliott kept the kibble and meowed.

“Okay. Okay. I hear you,” Elliott said as he followed the cat then scooped food into the bowl. He refilled the water tower and let Sigi at it. He stepped into the smaller bathroom, wrinkled his nose, then dealt with the stinky box. He bagged Sigi’s business and tossed it in the larger trashcan.

“Dude, what comes out of your back end stinks,” Elliott told the cat as he washed his hands. “Man, cat, I don’t know about you.”

A swish of a tail was all Elliott received for his commentary.

With the cat’s needs satisfied, Elliott pulled together a simple meal and a pot of coffee. After satisfying his hunger, he entered the bedroom. He took a few minutes to repack his bag with fresh clothes then prepared for another day. Once he’d checked his phone for the time, he returned to the kitchen, finished the last of the coffee, then left the apartment.

Once more on the bicycle, he rode to the clinic.
